How Many eSIMs Can I Have? Stored vs Active Profiles

How many eSIMs can I have? The number of eSIMs you can have depends on your phone, but there are two different limits: how many profiles it can store and how many it can use at the same time. A phone may hold several travel eSIMs while allowing only a smaller number of active lines. Check both limits for your exact model, region, and provider.

For trip planning, the useful question is usually: can I keep my home line available while using a travel eSIM, and save another profile for the next destination?

What is the difference between stored and active eSIMs?

A stored eSIM profile is installed on the phone. It can remain listed in your mobile settings even when you are not using that line.

An enabled or active line is switched on for use, subject to service availability and a valid plan. The phone's simultaneous-line limit determines which combinations can operate together.

A purchased plan is a third thing. A plan in your provider account is not necessarily installed, and an installed profile does not prove that it still has usable data or validity. Check the phone for installed profiles and the provider for package status.

Here, “active line” means a line enabled on the device. A provider may use “activation” to mean the event that starts a package's validity. Jet's activation-timing guide helps you separate those steps.

Here, enabled means switched on in the device, not necessarily the event that starts package validity.

How many eSIMs can an iPhone have?

Apple's eSIM setup guidance describes managing eight or more eSIMs on a compatible iPhone. That is a storage capability, not permission to run eight lines together. Confirm that the exact regional iPhone supports eSIM before relying on that figure.

For simultaneous use, Apple's Dual SIM guide says iPhone 13 models and later support two eSIMs. Supported earlier configurations can pair a physical SIM with an eSIM. Check the specification for your particular iPhone rather than treating every dual-SIM model as dual-eSIM capable.

If your home number already uses eSIM, two-eSIM support is the important detail. A phone that only supports a physical-SIM-plus-eSIM pairing does not provide the same arrangement.

When you are ready to add a supported profile, use Jet's iPhone eSIM installation guide rather than deleting your home line to make room for an active-line slot.

How many eSIMs can a Google Pixel use?

Google's Dual SIM documentation says Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and later phones can use two eSIM profiles at once if the carrier allows it. The same documentation describes physical-SIM-plus-eSIM configurations, with device and regional exceptions.

Google's cited guide does not establish one stored-profile maximum for every Pixel. Do not convert the two-active-eSIM figure into a two-profile storage limit, or borrow another manufacturer's storage number.

If you need a precise storage ceiling, give Google or your provider the exact model and software version. Ask separately about simultaneous use with your existing home line.

How many eSIMs can a Samsung Galaxy store?

Samsung's profile-capacity guidance gives an upper figure of 20 downloaded profiles, while warning that profile size, eSIM memory, and device policy can reduce the number. Treat “up to 20” as qualified guidance, not a promise that every Galaxy will hold 20 of your chosen profiles.

The active-line limit needs a separate check. “Dual SIM” alone does not tell you whether the supported pairing is two eSIMs or one physical SIM plus one eSIM. Samsung's setup guidance also notes that eSIM availability depends on model, region, and provider.

Confirm the combination in your exact device's documentation. Jet's Samsung installation guide covers adding a profile once that check is complete.

How should you plan multiple eSIMs for a trip?

Write down the lines you need simultaneously, then the profiles you want stored. These are different lists.

For example, you might want your home number available and a destination eSIM handling mobile data. That requires a supported two-line combination. A second travel profile for a later country can stay stored until needed, if the phone has room and the plan's installation rules allow it.

Before departure:

  1. Label profiles clearly, using names such as Home, Work, and Japan Trip.
  2. Identify which lines must remain available for calls or messages.
  3. Choose the intended mobile-data line and review any automatic data-switching setting.
  4. Check each package's validity, destination coverage, and remaining allowance separately.
  5. Keep the provider's installation and recovery instructions accessible.

Apple documents one cellular data network at a time, while Google specifies one default data SIM. Do not assume multiple enabled profiles combine their data allowances or connection speeds.

If managing several destination plans would be awkward, compare a regional package with separate country packages. Check every stop against the coverage list in Jet's international eSIM options; the number of countries visited does not automatically equal the number of profiles needed.

What if you cannot add or enable another eSIM?

First, identify whether the phone refuses to download a profile or refuses to enable another line. An installation-space problem and an active-line limit require different decisions.

If the message concerns enabled lines, review which existing line can be switched off. If it concerns storage, identify profiles you genuinely no longer need and confirm the provider's recovery rules before removing one. Do not repeatedly delete and reinstall the same plan as a test.

Apple's deletion guidance warns that erasing an eSIM can require contacting the carrier for a replacement. Turning a line off is therefore a different choice from removing its profile. Neither should be treated as a way to pause package validity without checking the plan terms.

Guidance checked: 22 October 2026. Confirm your exact device and carrier requirements before making changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have three eSIMs on one phone?

You can store three profiles if your device's storage capacity allows it. That does not establish that all three can be enabled together. Check the simultaneous-line limit and supported SIM combination separately.

Can I use eSIMs from different providers?

Yes, on a supported, appropriately unlocked device, subject to each provider's requirements. Apple specifically requires an unlocked iPhone when the two plans use different carriers. Provider support matters as well as spare storage.

Does deleting an eSIM cancel its plan?

Do not assume so. Apple says to contact the carrier to cancel service, and Samsung states that removing a plan does not affect its network contract. Check billing and cancellation separately.
